The Wanderer. Small success. The yielding finds its center while abroad.
旅小亨,柔得中乎外。

The wanderer petty and trifling — this is how he invites disaster.
旅琐琐,斯其所取灾。
The traveler is petty; aspirations exhausted, disaster.
旅琐琐,志穷灾也。
The wanderer reaches the inn, his goods held close, gaining a young servant's loyalty.
旅即次,怀其资,得童仆贞。
Gaining a loyal servant, in the end no fault.
得童仆贞,终无尤也。
The wanderer's inn burns, he loses his young servant — perseverance is dangerous.
旅焚其次,丧其童仆贞厉。
The traveler burns his lodging, also harmed. As a traveler dealing with inferiors, the principle is lost.
旅焚其次,亦以伤矣。以旅与下,其义丧也。
The wanderer rests in a place and recovers his resources — yet his heart is not at ease.
旅于处,得其资斧,我心不快。
The traveler in a place, not yet in position. Obtaining resources and tools, the heart is not yet satisfied.
旅于处,未得位也。得其资斧,心未快也。
Shooting the pheasant, one arrow lost — in the end, praise and appointment.
射雉一矢亡,终以誉命。
In the end, praise and command reach upward.
终以誉命,上逮也。
The bird's nest burns — the wanderer laughs first, then wails aloud. Losing the ox through carelessness. Misfortune.
鸟焚其巢,旅人先笑后号咷,丧牛于易,凶。
The traveler in the top place, its meaning is burned. Losing the cow in the open country, in the end no one hears.
以旅在上,其义焚也。丧牛于易,终莫之闻也。
