Small Excess. Small things go beyond, yet there is progress.
小過,小者過而亨也。
Six Lines · 六爻
The flying bird brings misfortune.
飛鳥以凶。
A flying bird brings danger. Nothing can be done.
飛鳥以凶,不可如何也。
Passing the grandfather, meeting the grandmother. Not reaching the prince, meeting the minister. No blame.
過其祖,遇其妣。不及其君,遇其臣,无咎。
Does not reach the ruler. A minister cannot overstep.
不及其君,臣不可過也。
Not exceeding in defense — following on, one may be harmed. Misfortune.
弗過防之,從或戕之,凶。
Following leads to harm. How dangerous it is!
從或戕之,凶如何也。
No blame. Not exceeding, yet meeting — going forward is dangerous, be on guard. Do not make perseverance your rule.
无咎。弗過遇之,往厲必戒,勿用永貞。
Does not surpass but meets it. Position not fitting. Going forward is dangerous, must beware. Cannot last long.
弗過遇之,位不當也。往厲必戒,終不可長也。
Dense clouds, no rain, from our western suburbs — the prince shoots and takes the one in the cave.
密云不雨,自我西郊,公弋取彼在穴。
Dense clouds but no rain. It has gone up.
密云不雨,已上也。
Not meeting but exceeding — the flying bird is caught. Misfortune — this is called calamity.
弗遇過之,飛鳥離之,凶,是謂災眚。
Does not meet but passes it. It has gone to extremes.
弗遇過之,已亢也。
