Commentary on the Judgment · 彖传
Union brings good fortune. Union means support, those below follow willingly. Original divination: primal lasting perseverance, no fault, from strength in the center. The restless come from all sides, upper and lower respond. The latecomer brings misfortune: their path has run out.
比，吉也。比，輔也，下順從也。原筮，元永貞，无咎，以剛中也。不寧方來，上下應也。後夫凶，其道窮也。

Sincerity in union. No blame. Like a full earthen jar — fortune arrives.
有孚比之，无咎。有孚盈缶，終來有它，吉。
In the first six of Comparison, there is good fortune from other sources.
比之初六，有它吉也。
Union from within. Perseverance brings fortune.
比之自內，貞吉。
Comparing from within — no loss of self.
比之自内，不自失也。
Union with the wrong people.
比之匪人。
Comparing with the wrong people — is this not hurtful?
比之匪人，不亦傷乎？
Union outwardly. Perseverance brings fortune.
外比之，貞吉。
Outwardly comparing with the worthy — following those above.
外比於賢，以從上也。
Open union. The king hunts on three sides, letting the game escape. The people are not warned. Fortune.
顯比，王用三驅，失前禽。邑人不誡，吉。
The good fortune of manifest comparison comes from a centered position. Letting go of the resistant, taking the compliant — like losing the leading game. The townspeople need no warning — the ruler acts with the center.
顯比之吉，位正中也。舍逆取順，失前禽也。邑人不誡，上使中也。

比之无首，凶。
Comparison without a leader — no proper end.
比之无首，无所终也。
