When the day comes, then make the change — advancing brings good fortune, no blame.
已日乃革之征吉，无咎。
On the day of change, action brings good results.
己日之革，行有嘉也。
Advancing brings misfortune; perseverance is dangerous. When the word of change has gone round three times, there is confidence.
征凶貞厲，革言三就，有孚。
The change proposal is agreed upon three times; where else can one go?
革言三就，又何之矣。
Remorse fades. With sincerity, changing the mandate brings good fortune.
悔亡有孚改命吉。
Good fortune in changing the mandate, because it aligns with commitment.
改命之吉，信志也。
The great person changes like the tiger — no need to divine, there is confidence.
大人虎變，未占有孚。
The great person transforms like a tiger; their patterns are brilliant.
大人虎變，其文炳也。
The noble one changes like the leopard; the small person changes his face. Advancing brings misfortune; dwelling in perseverance brings good fortune.
君子豹變，小人革面，征凶居貞吉。
The wise person transforms like a leopard; their patterns are rich. The small person changes face, following the ruler.
君子豹變，其文蔚也。小人革面，顺以从君也。
